Prospective cohort study in evaluation of risk factors for infection during and after coronary graft operations

Introduction: There is a strong suggestion that an impairment of vascular supply the sternum may be one most important factors influencing incidence deep sternal wound infection (DSWI). Several studies have studied risk for SSIs including DSWI in cardiac surgery. Methods: All patients who are presented to Assiut University Heart Hospital need Coronary artery Bypass Grafting from 1st January, 2018 30th june, 2021 were included study prospectively. Exclusion criteria diagnosed with infective endocarditis, undergone open heart surgery before or had sternotomy been done any other reason- redo excluded-, and where surgical accesses used than sternotomy. Results: During duration, we 99 pateinets. Our followed 1 week post-operative then on day 30 post-operative. 81 showed perfect skin healing at follow-up very nice neat scar month follow-up. 5 breakdown subcutaneous being exposed (Type I SWIs). 3 suffered type SWI but severe loss skin.
